Zomato Founder's Claim on Anti-Aging Device Temple and Gravity's Effect on Aging
What the Temple Device Actually Measures
Imagine putting a small metallic device on your temple. The Temple device provides real-time cerebral blood flow and oxygen measurements in relation to an individual's posture, either standing or seated. The Temple device does not hold FDA approval; it is solely intended for research. According to Goyal, the Temple device records changes in cerebral blood flow associated with a person's posture, which allows Goyal to collect data on whether changing an individual's posture has a positive impact on brain health.

Goyal has publicly displayed the Temple device in both silver and gold variants at events. Even if the concept of GAH fails, this device can be used to measure cognition and biomarkers that are associated with longevity. Goyal has also reported that when subjects perform upside down or invert themselves, their cerebral blood flow measurement increases demonstrably. The price for the Temple device? Not yet available for purchase; Goyal has not decided on a price for the device, currently, it is a laboratory tool for Continue Research, under Goyal's biology fund of $25 million.
Goyal's Big Swing on the Ageing Process: Gravity Ageing Hypothesis
GAH is the theme of Goyal's GAYHYP - Gravity Ageing Hypothesis; it links many well-established facts of science that the majority of people understand. Gravity is an existence, vertical postures restrict upward blood flow to your brain; and at the same time the cells in your hypothalamus and brainstem control the age at which you will die. Goyal's novel perspective on this concept uses a multifaceted approach that combines each of the aforementioned facts to support the Gravity Ageing Hypothesis that 1-2% of the blood flow problem will be left unchecked during an entire lifetime and will result in accelerated deterioration.
Supporting Evidence for Goyal's concept:
- Individuals who are shorter than average tend to outlive taller individuals. Bats that hang upside down on a daily basis, as expected, live 10 times more than is expected of their species.
- Yoga has developed a body of knowledge that demonstrates how to increase the supply of blood through gravity-assisted poses, such as the practice of doing inversion poses (head-down) for an hour or more on an inverted table or chair every day will result in an increase in the amount of blood flow received in those two areas (hypothalamus/brainstem).
Goyal suggests that this is a simple solution to the blood-flow issue. He has encouraged everyone who has an interest in the Gravity Ageing Hypothesis to try doing inversion poses for a minimum of 5-10 minutes daily, with or without using an inverted table or chair. He also encouraged their clients to do the same.
Goyal's team has measured increases in cognitive functioning (brain-growth) as a result of the combination of head-down body poses and an increase in vertical posture. Skeptics of Goyal's concept, including many doctors in the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences, have questioned the simplistic approach to the blood-flow issue and whether or not this is a legitimate explanation for many of the aged-related diseases we develop and what is cause and effect. Goyal has since apologized for some of his wording when first discussing his theory, but he has remained steadfast in his assertion that GAH is testable and fundable.
The Business Side of Goyal's Approach to Longevity:
Zomato has successfully started to make a profit and is expanding from there into the realm of health-tech with its new parent company, Eternal Life. The wearables market is set to surpass $70 billion and by 2026 will encompass a market that will consist of a segment that includes products focused on longevity. Goyal's pivot to funding health-tech is being mirrored by other entrepreneurs like Bryan Johnson, who also is an investor and entrepreneur within the Anti-Ageing space.
Competitive Advantages of Goyal's Approach:
- Data Moat: The Anonymized Flow Dataset that has been created to collect data from individuals for using AI technologies. This will allow him to get the most accurate information regarding how to create individualised inversions to get the best result.
- Hardware Upsell: Temple's pricing will be in the range of $200-$500. The Temple Wearable will provide consumers with everything they need for an effective inversion regimen, offered by Eternal Life.
- Investor Magnet: Eternal Life has provided $25 million in seed funding to biology startups.
- Risks: The evaluation of the pseudoscience label could damage Goyal's brand if he fails to improve the credibility data, surrounding the effects of inversions on cognitive performance in older adults.
Science Check: Is There a Plausible Explanation or a Stretch?
Is gravity the major reason for slowing cellular aging? Not really.
- Supporting Data
Astronauts in zero gravity tend to age slower, read more, and have longer telomeres. Inversion treatments improve blood circulation and help with migraines. A shorter height is correlated with longer life (2-5 years).
- Counterpoints
Major influencing factors are genetics, nutrition, and inflammation. No direct studies exist proving gravity causes aging. Bats? They have fast metabolism.
Goyal is seeking third-party peer review. He has a sound plan in place by continuing to fund experiments. It's a smart hedge.
Market Opportunity: The Merging of Wearables and Longevity
Wearable anti-aging devices continue to take off: Oura ($500M valuation); Whoop ($3.6B). Temple emphasis on brain-related metrics distinguishes it from competitors.
Comparable Investments
- Levels (glucose monitoring bracelets): $300M raised.
- Viome ($1B+ valuation for microbiome testing).
Goyal has a target market advantage. There are 500M people in India wanting affordable solutions to extend longevity. If this device sells for ₹15,000, the mass market will adopt it.
Certain Challenges and Criticisms Associated
This device received a lot of criticising comments on X, to which Goyal clarified, "This is not a product launch; I have tested the hypothesis before I designed the device." There are significant challenges associated with FDA regulation:
- Years are required for conducting a longitudinal study and validate the accuracy of the data collected. The need for consumers to buy Temple-branded products will be an obstacle.
- At a minimum, partial validation will create a commercial opportunity for apps (providing inversion-therapy), subscription chair rentals, etc.
What Lies Ahead for Goyal and Temple
A prototype that can progress through commercialization. Goyal is seeking additional partners for clinical trials. Goyal personally wears the device daily.
Goyal's 2026 Goals:
To get a beta device into 1,000 users, publish "Inversion Flow" research, and ultimately position Temple as an independent commercial venture.
Zomato's founder's claim to defy gravity is bold. If the GAH holds even 20%, it would disrupt the organisation's current wellness model. If not, then Temple's Flow Tracker is the only option. In either case, Goyal is playing on the offensive.
